The Babe Hits His 700th HR
80 Years Ago Today - Navin Field, Detroit - July 13, 1934~ “The Sultan Of Swat, Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees, may be almost through as a ball player, but he can still clout them over the fence to win ball games. The Babe proved this today when his 700th home run with one man on base proved the winning margin over the Tigers in the crucial series for the league lead. Ruth retrieved the ball for a souvenir from a youth who caught it outside the park and gave the boy $20 for it. Photo shows The Babe presenting another autographed ball to Leonard Beals, the boy who retrieved his 700th home run ball.”
